Through Many Fires
After considering several dozen possibilities I have chosen, “Through Many Fires,” as the title of my post-apocalyptic novel. Through Many Fires is due for release August 1st in both paperback and on Kindle. As with my first two novels, Titan Encounter and Final Duty, this title comes from a line in the book.
A quick synopsis of the novel (without spoilers) is that terrorists smuggle a nuclear bomb into Washington D.C. and detonate it during the State of the Union Address. Caden Westmore is in nearby Bethesda and watches as the mushroom cloud grows over the capital. The next day, as he drives away from the burning city, he learns that another city has been destroyed and then another. Panic ensues and society starts to unravel.
While I always plan out my novels these plans tend to change. It is as if the novel takes on a life of its own and sometimes I’m not sure where it is going. However, I currently have over 55,000 words written. Chapters 1 through 21 are ready for final editing and I’m writing on chapter 24.
Now that I have settled on a title I’ve contacted graphic designer Micah Hansen to create the cover. Through Many Fires is scheduled for release both on Kindle and in paperback on August 1st.
A Bestseller!
Final Duty - The Alien War Anthology has repeatedly been on both the Amazon.com Science Fiction anthology and the short story bestseller lists.
N aturally, I was thrilled to see my book on these bestseller lists, and hope it eventually reaches the number one spot. Believe me, on the day that happens I’ll let you know.

The book title comes from the novella that opens the collection. In that story, Lieutenant Amy Palmer returns to the Altair star system as an officer aboard the reconnaissance ship Mirage twenty years after the death of her father during the Battle of Altair, Almost immediately disaster strikes and Amy, along with the crew of the Mirage, must face the possibility of performing their final duties.
All three stories in the book occur in the same universe and deal with the same threat, but that and the military theme is the only connection between the stories.

Titan Encounter – The Debut Novel
My debut novel, Titan Encounter, was released on July 21, 2012.
Titan Encounter is the story of Justin, a respected businessman in the Confederation of Free States along the edge of Earth Empire. He starts one morning as a respected businessman and ends the day a fugitive wanted by every power in the known universe. Fleeing with his ‘sister’ Mara and Naomi, a mysterious woman from Earth Empire, their only hope of refuge is with the Titans, genetically enhanced soldiers who rebelled, and murdered millions in the Titanomachy War.
The novel has been well received with comments like, “A must-read page turner!” Roger Colby, author of The Transgression Box, says, “If you like high adventure set in a futuristic backdrop, this novel is for you.”
The Future of Leisure Reading
I’ve owned a Kindle and a Kindle Fire since shortly after their
release. Together with the Nook, iPad and other tablet computers, they
are changing the way we read. I might still buy a paperback “how to”
book, but for leisure reading my purchases are almost all digital.
Fiction publishing is rapidly moving to digital readers and the future of
publishing will be largely digital. I both lament and enjoy that trend
and this
is where I write about
it.
